When Joan Kroc pledged her gift, she wanted to ensure that operating the Kroc Centers would not negatively impact nor diminish the critical human services that The Salvation Army already delivers. Services like providing shelter, food, clothing and disaster relief needed to be continued without a hitch.
She also wanted to ensure that any person or family that wasn't able to pay the normal costs of a Kroc Center membership would still be able to enjoy the center. To keep her vision intact, Mrs. Kroc established an endowment to support the Kroc Center programs and operations.
The Salvation Army in Coeur d'Alene has been awarded $70 million from the Kroc estate, which was supplemented by an $8 million capital campaign to build and endow a Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene. The project represents a total investment in the community of nearly $80 million.
As well as the Founding Capital Campaign, there are always opportunities to sponsor a child or a family's annual membership by donating to the Kroc Center.
When you make a gift to The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, you become a part of the largest project ever undertaken by The Salvation Army. Your gift becomes grounded in the reputation, trust and credibility of The Salvation Army—which is well known for its continuing efforts of providing relief to the poorest of the poor.
