The Kroc Center Thanks Cenex Zip Trip in CDA Who Raised $5,250 To Help Local Kids

Sep 14, 2020

Coeur d’Alene Cenex Manager Brandon Slocum puts his heart and soul into helping local kids in need, trying each year to surpass the previous year’s success.

This year $5,250 was raised through the annual “Backpacks for Kids” fundraiser to help provide food, supplies, and other “greatest needs” items for students. The Coeur d’Alene location at 1247 Best Ave raised more money than any other Cenex Zip Trip location in the region for the second year in a row.

All Cenex employees were engaged in the month-long event to raise money with the added motivation that it would go to benefit the students at their neighborhood school, Borah Elementary. Brandon Slocum is passionate about doing all he can to help ensure the kids in his community are taken care of. He hosted an onsite BBQ and raffle and contributed $100 out of his own paycheck. All monies stay right here in Coeur d’Alene.

“We have an immense appreciation for Brandon’s creative fundraising antics and to Cenex for doing what they can to help the community,” says Kroc Center Director Kip Sharbono. “When we were looking to help the neediest students with the funds received from Cenex, we chose to partner with Borah Elementary. Now they can provide their students with snacks, school supplies, or whatever they need most as COVID-19 continues to impact our community,” Sharbono adds.

The “Backpacks for Kids” fundraiser began in 2010 with former general manager Ian Johnstone who was passionate about helping the less fortunate. Johnstone passed away from cancer in 2015 but his philanthropic vision continues. To date, Cenex has donated more than $400,000 to Salvation Army outreach efforts in the Inland Northwest.
