COEUR D’ALENE—Heavy snow hasn’t slowed headway on the new $35 million Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, set to open in April.
"We have a lot of dedicated crews still plugging away," said Major John Chamness, Kroc Center executive director. "There’s no reason to change our schedule now."
Crews inside the 123,000-square-foot center are hanging drywall, laying tile, building the leisure pool and staying out of the cold.
The 200 workers should have the building completed by April 4, when the center will host a dedication ceremony, Chamness said.
Guests can choose from two types of membership status, silver and gold. Gold offers more perks than the silver.
Silver memberships offer guests access to the aquatic center, multi-activity gym, cardio and wight center, fitness equipment orientation, game lounge and private changing rooms.
Gold memberships earn access to all the silver perks, as well as three free fitness coaching sessions, drop-in land and water fitness activities and a 10 percent discount on registration fees for all classes, programs, camps and rentals.
The $35 million center sits on a 12-acre corner of Ramsey Road and Golf Course Road. It will have a traffic signal up at the busy intersection by the time the center opens. Chamness has been seeking donations of about $250,000 to help cover the costs.
Coeur d’Alene residents contributed $6.7 million in private donations last year for the center, the largest one-time, capital campaign in the history of North Idaho. The Salvation Army is matching a $34 million endowment for operational costs.
