Coeur d'Alene Arts and Education Programs

Immersing yourself or a child in the arts and in educational programming is a great way to lead a more fulfilling and enriching life. Whether it’s learning to play an instrument or read music, or taking a shot at singing, dancing, or acting, there is a place to develop your talent and pursue your dreams here at The Kroc Center. If the fine arts are more for you, classes in sculpting, drawing and painting are also available for you to create your masterpiece. Our state-of-the-art performance and studio spaces allow artists to hone their skills and showcase their work.

Dance Classes

Introduction To Ballroom: East Coast Swing & Night Club 2-Step
Thursdays, Mar 1–22, Ages 15+, $36

Learn the basics of two dances—the East Coast Swing and the Night Club Two-Step. Ballroom Instructor Shari is a talented teacher and will have you dancing to the music. Leather or non-marking soft sole shoes required.

Rhythmic Gymnastics
Mon/Wed, Feb 27–Mar 21, Ages 5–14, $40
In Rhythmic Gymnastics children will learn to use hoops, ribbons, ropes, balls, and clubs. They will develop skills including flexibility, ballet, gymnastics, dance and choreography. This program helps build strong bones, muscles, flexibility, coordination, good posture and balance. At the end of each session students will put on a performance for family and friends. Wear non-marking athletic shoes and workout attire. Clothing should be fitted, not loose.

Arts & Crafts

Mixed Media: Drawing & Painting
Tuesdays, Mar 6–Apr 17*, Ages 13+, $60
Choose to work in either Acrylics or Watercolor. This class will concentrate on drawing techniques, understanding perspective and eye-level, development of individual compositions, color mixing, and materials preparation. We will review basic watercolor technique. Acrylics will be taught using the transparent overlay technique called imprimatura. *No class Mar. 27.

Outdoor Photography, Capturing Spring Scenes
Saturdays, Apr 14–May 5, Ages 15+, $40
Flowers are so beautiful when they bloom. Capture the colors of the flowers and foliage that surrounds them in this photography class. This class combines outdoor shooting (weather permitting) with classroom instruction in order to develop skills that will help you become a better photographer. We will discuss aperture and shutter settings, ISO settings, the rule of thirds, understanding a histogram and the golden hours. This class is designed for the beginner to intermediate skill level. Bring your camera.

Kroc Kids Children's Choir
Thursdays, Mar 1–Apr 5, Ages 6–11, $10
The Kroc Kids Children’s Choir will introduce students to the performing arts in creative, exciting ways. Students will learn basic musical concepts, explore the incredible sounds they can make with their voices and display their talent and hard work in a celebration performance the week before Easter. All singers are invited to participate in special music at Kroc Church on Easter Sunday as well. Volunteers are always welcome so if you are interested in helping out please contact Patti Davenport at patti.davenport@usw.salvationarmy.org.

Date Night
For parents with kids ages 3 mo–
11 yrs
The kids will play while the parents are away! Reconnect with your loved one over dinner and a movie — or whatever you like, while The Kroc Center provides quality programming and entertainment for your kids. They will laugh, run and play all night in a positive and safe environment similar to Camp Kroc, while you enjoy one-on-one time with your special someone.

Homework Help
MondayFriday, 35:45pm, FREE
The Kroc Center provides homework help, a healthy snack, physical activity and exposure to various aspects of the facility on a daily basis. Transportation will be provided from the middle schools to The Kroc Center. Students arrive at 3:00 and participate in a minimum of 30 minutes of homework help, test preparation and/or study skills as needed. After homework is complete, students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of activities, tournaments and interactions organized by Kroc staff. If you're wondering what to do after a long school day, we encourage you to come hang with us at The Kroc where we work hard and play hard! This is a drop-in activity. Open to students in grades 6–12 at no cost. Homework Help is not available on early dismissal days, school holidays, or snow days.
